Colossus (collaboration with Caley Smyth)

Toy cat, 3 sheets of plywood, white paint, found paintings, found materials. Site-specific installation. 2003 and 2004.

Colossus was a temporary site-specific installation which used the gallery space to create the illusion of a giant animal trapped behind the wall barricading the doorway. When viewed through the peephole in the wall the toy cat appears gigantic. In actuality the cat is approximately fifteen centimeters high and is perched on a piece of cardboard which is cut, bent and painted to mimic the perspective and colour of the gallery floor.
