IKEA Geodesic Kit is an ongoing series of multiples made from IKEA flyers which I receive as junk through the mail. The project is usually displayed on a table or plinth with the materials required for making more of the geodesics. The work conflates the modular, utopian form of the geodesic with the disposable flyer materials, implying that the high modernist ideals of Buckminster Fuller have been reduced to cheap commodity. At the same time the possibility of creating small, cheap and homemade artworks from the banal materials democratizes the geodesic and activates the flyers as something more personal and precious than just junk.
